I’m not the one to toot my horn, nor anyone else’s for that matter, but since jumping on the social media bandwagon, my sales have increased a lot. What’s my secret? Easy, just spending the time on the social media sites during the day while I am working.
My technique is simple. I use Tweet Deck for Twitter, have a company Myspace, I use Facebook, LinkedIn, and a multitude of other sites, and just spend a few minutes each day typing in what I am doing, linking to my new work, posting about finished jobs, and even chat about useless things. So far it is paying off well.
Another useful thing I have found is the iPhone. Amazingly, not many have bothered with things like posting their site link in their info for an app. Just today I received two site inquiries from the iPhone app WhosHere.
I also have two blogs, tied in to one another, I suggest Wordpress because of their great optimization, and a forum, as well as posting on Craigslist etc. The key is to have your link anywhere and everywhere…..and It be relevant. Relevant meaning you don’t just plaster your link in places that don’t link back. That is why social media is so good. You have an account….so it’s a link back of sorts.
With so many networks out there, there is bound to be a place for any company, not just designers. Even Comcast and AT&T have jumped headfirst into social media. Comcast even has a terrific customer help tweet….and it’s much faster and more helpful than by phone because you actually have the tech right there.
So, as a company or designer, or anyone with services or goods, don’t be afraid of new media. Catch up to everyone else and join us on the social media highway! ByRage Design Group kimberlyjames@ragedesigngroup.com
